When Worlds Collide 6: Hero Summary: Harm comes in to save the day - or does he? Harm looked around the cockpit and saw the captain slumped unconscious in his chair, another man sitting restrained on the floor, and a third person, lying still, his face and neck covered. "Sorry to spring all this on you, but things didn't go exactly the way I planned them." Tony pushed himself up out of the chair. "In case you don't remember me-" "I remember you now," Harm interrupted. "I hope you're not trying to pin this on me. Are you?" "Not quite. We've got the guilty party right here," and he winced as he pointed towards Hassan. He felt warmth spreading along his waist, and hoped Rabb didn't notice. "Unfortunately, I didn't get here before he knocked out the captain and killed the flight engineer. We need your help to get this plane down safely." Harm didn't hesitate. "Let's do it." "Let's?" Harm grinned inwardly as he heard the shock in the younger man's voice. "I'll need you to help a little with preparations for landing. We're going to need to move the captain." Tony nodded and opened the cockpit door. After consulting briefly with the lead flight attendant, he turned back to Harm. "She's going to have two of the male flight attendants come up and move him to the jump seat in the food preparation at the front of the plane." "While she's doing that, can you have her discreetly let my wife know what's up and that I won't be back until we land? She's former military and won't let anything slip." Tony nodded and spoke to the flight attendant again. Once they got the captain relocated, Harm settled himself in the pilot's seat. Tony resumed his seat next to him. Putting on the headsets, they initiated communications. "Gibbs? Commander Rabb is here." "It's actually 'Captain' now," Harm interjected. "Captain Rabb," Gibbs' voice came into the headset. "Has DiNozzo briefed you on the situation?" "Enough to know how serious it is." "We've got a man from the FAA standing by to help walk you through landing this plane. Based on your current location, I'm told your best landing options are Bangor International in Maine or Greater Moncton International in New Brunswick. Got any preferences?" "What's the recommendation?" Gibbs looked at McGee, who repeated the question to the FAA man, Matt Wilson, who had come to NCIS headquarters. "Our man here says Greater Moncton." "Then Greater Moncton it is. Can you patch the FAA guy in?" "Sure thing. Tony?" "Yeah, Boss?" "I'm leaving now and will meet you when you land in New Brunswick. Don't screw anything up before then." "Got it, Boss." Gibbs handed over his headset to Matt Wilson, who began speaking to Harm in what seemed like a foreign language. "McGee!" "Yeah, Boss?" "Can you set something up so we can be patched in to the cockpit while we fly up to Canada?" McGee handed him two wireless headsets paired with mobile phones. "Abby though you might want something like that, so we put this together. The extra one is for the FAA guy." Gibbs handed the second set to Matt Wilson, who quickly switched to the portable headset and continued his discussion with Harm. Gibbs grabbed Wilson by the arm and led him out of MTAC to the elevator. Ziva was standing there, waiting. "You're not coming with us, Ziva." "You need me there, sir. To help debrief-" "Debrief who? The captain was unconscious and the flight engineer is slightly, uh, dead. You can wait here and interrogate Hassan when we get back." "No, sir. I'm coming with you. You know how your gut tells you things? Well, mine is telling me I need to go with you." Gibbs looked at her face, and decided not to argue any further. "Come on." The trio got into the helicopter and it took off. Back on the airplane, Tony could tell time was running out for him. His reaction time to Harm's commands was getting slower, and there was a creeping grayness in his vision. "Are you okay?" Harm asked, concerned at Tony's paleness and how quiet he had become. "Yeah, sure. I just-" his eyes closed and he started to slump in the seat. "DiNozzo!" Harm shouted. He leaned over to shake the young man when he saw the blood, soaking his right side and spreading across his midsection. What did I get myself into? Harm thought to himself as he re-opened the connection with Gibbs and Wilson. "Gibbs? We've got a ... situation." |
