Saturday Evening
“This was a great idea.” The woman spoke while being twirled around to a
rhythmic beat. “First dinner, then a movie, then dancing.”
“I thought you needed to have fun for a night.” The man pulled her in for a dip.
“All work and no play makes Jane a very dull girl.”
“Are you saying I’m dull?” she asked archly. She started to pull away from him.
He held his arms firm and wouldn’t let her move away.
“No, of course not,” he replied quickly. “I know you’ve been busy lately and I
thought I’d help you unwind.”
She let herself be drawn in. “As it happens, you’re right.”
The song ended and the next one was a slow, sensual tune. The couple drew closer
together, until they were nearly touching.
The man bent his head toward hers. “Besides, this beats Blazing Saddles
and a gallon of ice cream any day.”
“Bastard.” Lynnea chuckled as Webb’s lips brushed against hers.
Meanwhile … across town
“I’m sorry, this probably isn’t your idea of a romantic date, Victor,” Irene
whispered apologetically. They were at a dinner honoring a retiring
schoolteacher, a colleague of hers.
“It’s okay, Irene,” Gunny replied gamely. “I have fun just being with you.”
She smiled at him. “That’s so sweet.”
“I know we’ve only known each other a few weeks, but …” and Gunny lowered his
voice as one of their tablemates glared at him.
“But what?” Irene whispered.
“I’ve gotten really, uh, attached … to you,” Gunny murmured. “I’m going to be
sorry when we head back to DC.”
“Shhh!” Another person at the table shushed them.
“Know what?” Irene said. “I think we’ve been here long enough.” She stood up,
taking Gunny’s hand. “Let’s go somewhere more private and … talk.”
Meanwhile … at a movie theater in downtown DC
Harm and Mac stood at the entrance to the theater.
“I’ve never had that happen before,” Harm said.
“I can’t believe they threw us out,” Mac commented.
“And we can’t come back until when?”
“The fifth of Never, I think he said.”
“I guess making out in the back of theater is frowned on these days.” Harm shook
his head.
Mac ran her fingers up his arm. “Well, why don’t we go back home and finish what
we started?”
“Your place or mine?”
