Thursday Night
Mac’s Apartment

Mac took Harm’s hand and led him to her bedroom. He had been here, had even slept with her in her bed, but never like this. Not as a lover.

Mac stopped, suddenly shy of this man, her friend for all these years, someone dearer to her than anyone in her life had ever been. He turned her to face him and bent his head to hers.

Their lips met, and Mac forgot any hesitations she might have had. God, the man knows how to kiss, she thought, before her senses were overwhelmed with the passion of their embrace.

They tumbled onto the bed. Dammit, why couldn’t it be like the romance novels, where your clothes just magically melt away? Mac thought to herself, as their hands got tangled trying to remove each other’s clothing.

“Do you have to do everything, Mac?” Harm teased.

“Fine.” She threw her arms back. He quickly pulled her sundress up and over her head. Seconds later, they were both nude.

Suddenly Harm paused. He gently caressed her face and asked her, “Are you sure about this, Mac?”

She moved her hands up to hold his and replied, “I’ve never been more sure about anything in my life.”

Meanwhile …

“Nice to have you join us, Mr. Webb,” Clay heard a woman’s voice through the fog of regaining consciousness. His right shoulder was throbbing, but it wasn’t unbearable.

“Where’s Gunny?” he asked, looking around the room. He saw the woman from the desert – Lynnea, that was her name.

“Not here. He’s on his way, though,” she told him.

“Where am I?” He looked around at the room.

“A hospital room.”

“I guessed as much. I meant where, as in location.” Webb was testier than he intended, but he figured he was allowed to be. After all, he was the one who had been shot.

“Oh. Just outside of Phoenix.” She stood up and began walking around the room.

“How did we get here?”

“I drove, since your vehicle wasn’t exactly road-safe.”

“And the guys who were shooting at us?”

“Safe and sound,” Gunny answered from the doorway. “Dropped them off with a trusted associate and they spilled the goods on where our main target was holed up. He should be in custody right about now.”

“I’m not even going to try to understand what you just said there.” Lynnea shook her head. “I’m glad you’re here, Victor. My roommate will be here any time to pick me up and take me home. Just return my car when you get yours back.”

There was a knock at the door. “Lynnea? Are you ready to go?”

Lynnea started picking up her things. “Yeah.” She turned to face Webb. “See ya when I see ya, I guess.”

“I guess.”

Gunny moved to make room for Lynnea’s roommate, but stopped. “Irene?!”
