Summary: Harm and Mac pay a visit to Petty Officer Simpson's apartment and start to put the pieces together. Rating: IM15 Disclaimer: See Part 1. Spoilers: Anything through Season 10 is fair game.
Friday Morning Harm's Apartment Harm switched off the alarm buzzing next to his ear. He couldn't remember the last time he hadn't been already awake when the alarm went off. It had been the best night's sleep he'd had in a long time. And the reason why was curled up next to him. "Wake up, sleepyhead," he murmured. Mac's only response was to burrow under the blankets. "Unless you want to wear the same clothes you did last night, you probably want to get up." He peeked under the sheets at her. "Although what you're wearing right now is fine with me." Mac chuckled. "You would." She slid a hand along his bare stomach. "And I have to admit I like your outfit too." "Keep that up, and we won't make it in to work at all, much less on time," Harm said. "All right, all right." Mac got up and headed to the bathroom. "Want to help me clean up before I go home to get dressed for work?" Harm hurried after her. "I thought you'd never ask." Later That Morning JAG Headquarters
Mac rushed through the halls, nearly colliding with the General as she opened the door to the conference room.
"I'm not late, am I, sir?" she asked.
"Not at all, Colonel. Take a seat, then I'll start."
Mac slid into the empty chair across from Harm. He grinned at her, and she blushed. This is going to be challenging, Harm thought to himself.
They managed to get through the meeting. It was difficult - every time he looked at Mac, he thought of last night. And this morning. And judging by Mac's expression, she was doing the same.
He busied himself with office work until lunchtime, when Mac knocked on his door.
"Hey there."
"Hey yourself." She sat down in the chair. "So are we still on for tonight?"
Harm held up the keys to Petty Officer Simpson's apartment. "Sure are."
"What exactly are we looking for?"
"I'm not really sure," Harm confessed. "Something that tells us why she stopped taking her medication. I put a call in to her psychiatrist, but I don't know if he'll be able to tell us anything."
Harm got his answer later that afternoon. Dr. Reardon confirmed that the petty officer had been his patient, and not much else.
"Thanks for nothing," Harm muttered after he hung up the phone.
"Do you always talk to yourself?" Mac was standing in his doorway. "Or just when you've had a good night's sleep?" She winked at him.
"Sorry about that. I just talked to the good psychiatrist."
"So he was helpful. I came by to see if you were ready to leave. I'm going to head home now."
Harm looked at his watch. "I've got about a half-hour's worth of work left to do today. Do you want me to pick you up at your place?"
"How about you call me when you're leaving here, and I'll get us dinner at China Palace and then pick you up?"
"That works. See you then." He blew her a kiss.
Friday Evening Petty Officer Simpson's Apartment
"There's not much here," Mac said as they walked through her apartment. Harm was right, the NCIS agent had not been there. Everything was as Petty Officer Simpson had left it nearly a week ago.
"Just this." Harm pointed to the computer.
They booted it up and pulled up the email program and looked at her saved mail.
"Look at this." Mac tapped the screen. "There's a lot of emails from this person. BeFree@dcnet.com."
Harm opened the last message, from late Saturday night.

Kelly,
I knew you'd have the guts to do it. Isn't it the most freeing experience?
Finally, you're going to enjoy life instead of sitting on the sidelines.
Greg
"Who's Greg, and what did she do that freed her?" Harm asked.
"I don't know who Greg is - the name hasn't shown up anywhere in her stuff that I saw. But I can guess what she did to be free. She stopped taking her medication," Mac told Harm. "I've heard of that happening. People feel like the drugs, um, make them less able to feel emotion. So they stop taking them."
"And?"
"And they're playing roulette. There's a chance that everything will be fine, but more likely, it isn't."
"So we need to find out what this Greg person's connection is to Petty Officer Simpson." Harm thought for a moment. "Wait a minute. I remember Bud saying something about being able to trace back IP addresses through the email and instant message programs."
"Can he do it?"
"If he can't, I think I know someone who can."
