A not-so-well-known attraction on the island is Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park, on the north of Grand Cayman.  It was opened in 1994, and parts of it are not yet completed.  It had just opened when Chris went to Cayman in 1995, and it was interesting for him to see what had been added since he had last been.  The Botanic Park not only has beautiful flowers, but is also home to LOTS of iguanas.

Plants & Flowers

I am not able to identify most of these -- they're not in my flower book.  This is probably because not all of them are truly "wild" flowers.  I guess I should have written down the plant descriptions when I was there!

This is a parasitic plant which has banana-shaped "fruit".

Another parasitic plant which looks like a pineapple.

Silver thatch palm tree -- the national tree for the Cayman Islands. This is a "century" plant.  It grows for about 30 years, blooms once, and dies. Just to give you an idea of the size of the century plant...

Iguanas

There is an iguana in here - you just have to look closely.

Another well-hidden iguana.
